May 2026 Hail Along the I-70 Corridor — St. Charles County, MO
May 18, 2026
The same May 2026 system that struck St. Louis County reached St. Charles County first, and it was stronger there. Quarter to golf-ball hail fell from Wentzville through O'Fallon and St. Peters, with a concentrated wind swath along I-70.
St. Charles County has an unusual exposure profile: enormous numbers of homes in O'Fallon, Dardenne Prairie, Cottleville and Wentzville went up between the late 1990s and late 2000s. Whole subdivisions carry roofs of the same age and the same builder-grade shingle, so when a hail core crosses one, damage is street-wide rather than scattered.
If neighbors on your street are filing claims, your roof was almost certainly hit too. Have it inspected and documented before the reporting deadline passes — several regional insurers writing in this county have moved to shorter reporting windows than the standard one year.
